Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh, or the `Land of the D a w n - l i t Mountains," is India's easternmost state, the first to receive the Sun God on Indian soil. Covering an area of 83,500 sq. km, the state is predominantly mountainous with numerous rivers and streams cutting through it, the mightiest of them being the Brahmaputra.The land finds mention even in the epic Mahabharata and the Ramayana.

Excavations at various sites have revealed beautifully carved images and old medieval fortresses.

This is a land of blooming meadows of flowers, and of orchids of 500 varieties-and more. The 24-odd tribes lend the state their own colours. Fond of singing and dancing, these people are full of vigour and life. The land vibrates to the exciting music and dance and the colourful life of its people. Their joy and vitality also find expression in their exquisite hand-woven cottons and woollens, and their lovely cane and bamboo creations.

Arunachal Pradesh is a land still proudly preserving the pristine glory of its people and culture and the natural scenic beauty of its hills, rivers and lakes.
