Badami

Well known for its exquisite cave temple Badami, the ancient capital of the Chalukyas is a picturesque town lying 29 km from Pattadakal. Also noted for its structural temples dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu that overlook the ancient Bhuthanather Lake, Badami offers several breathtaking sculptures including those of Shiva embodied in the 81 dance poses.

About 500 kms from Bangalore. It has a railway station also.

EXCURSIONS

Banashankari Temple (50 km) -- Dedicated to Parvati it belongs to the 17th century, and is built in the Dravidian style. Guledgud (24 km) This town has several temples and a dargah of Sayyad Basha. Lakkundi (12 km) -- A centre of Chalukyan art, it has several temples among which Kasi Vishwanatha is the most elaborately furnished.
