Champawat

Champawat, at a height of 1600 m, is a popular destination for religious tourists, for there are a number of temples both in, and around it. With the nearest airport and railhead - Pithoragarh and Tanakpur - 80 and 89 km away, respectively, Champawat is better connected than many other hill stations. Of the many temples here, those of Balishwar, Champadevi, Durga, Surya, Ghatotkach, Hingla Devi and Hadimba Devi are popular among tourists.

EXCURSIONS

Excursions take tourists to the temple of Barahi Devi at Devidhura 45 km away, and to another group of temples built by the Chand rulers, and dedicated to Champawati Durga, Baleshwar and Ratneshwar. Excursions to Punyagiri temple and Mayawati Ashram are also popular.
