One of India's major tourist attractions are the exquisite temples of Khajuraho. Originally a cluster of 85 temples, only 32 have survived the ravages of time and neglect. These especially the few which are in a state of preservation are ample testimony of the greatness of Indian art and sculpture under the Chandella kings who ruled here a thousand years ago and built these temples during the heyday of their power between 950 A.D. and 1050 A.D. The temples are divided into three groups for convenience the eastern, the western and the southern. These amazing temples not only depict the many aspects of life in contemporary India they are also a living celebration of the eternal beauty of life. |
