LandsdowneLansdowne is a hill-station situ- ated on the Kotdwar-Pauri road. Only 45 km from the Kotdwar railway station, it is also well connected by road. It was the one-time favourite hill station of the British in India, who set up a cantonment for the Garhwal Rifles of India here. Lansdowne has an altitude of 6000 m, and the vegetation includes oak and blue pine trees. EXCURSIONS Although Lansdowne is ideal for a lazy, relaxing holiday, excursions can be made to the Takeshwar Mahadev temple 30 Km away, or Jwalpadevi some 50 Km away. Kotdwar also contains the Sidhbali temple and Karnva Ashram, which are of interest to sight-seers. Kotdwar is also the place of birth of Bharat, who lends his name to our country. ACCESS The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, 125 km, and nearest railhead Kotdwar, 45 km. By road, it is well connected to Delhi (295 km), Haridwar (95 km) and Dehradun (150 km).
