Nelliyampathy

About 75 kms from Palghat, the Nelliyampathy hills are a chain of ridges and valleys covered with dense evergreen forests. The height ranges from 467 meters to the highest peak Padagiri which is 1572 meters above sea level.

The drive from Palghat is itself fascinating as it opens before you a view of blue-purple hills and thick tropical forests. There are some excellent places for stop overs on the way.

Nelliyampathy is good for trekkers too.

ACCESS

Nelliyampathy is about two and-a-half hours drive from Palghat and about 4 hours from Calicut.

EXCURSIONS

Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary

Spreading over on area of 285 sq kms, Parambikulam is said to house a very large population of bison. Apart from this you can view the Nilgiri langur, sloth bear, the lion-tailed macaque, spotted deer and a few tigers and leopards. The Cannimare Teak Tree, also believed to be the largest in the Asia, grows here.
