PanipatPanipat is the centre of three strategic battles that changed the history of the land. History was more often made at Panipat than Delhi, since it fell on the route of land invasions to Delhi. Much is not left now by way of historic relics in the aftermath of the battles which took place thrice in different periods. Only the tomb of Ibrahim Lodi, the Kabuli Bagh Masjid, built by Babar to commemorate his victory, the Salarjung Gate all architectural masterpieces in themselves bear testimony to those tumultuous times. A mound in the city is said to be the Pandava Quila. The Dargah of Bu Ali Shah Qualandar a revered saint bears the imprint of the Muslim era. Panipat today is known for its handlooms, woollens and handicrafts. Furnishing fabrics and woollen carpets are a speciality here. ACCESS 94 km from Delhi, on the Delhi - Amritsar highway.
