Rishikesh

Sage Raibhya Rishi did a pen- ance to please God who appeared as Hrishikesh. That was how the holy town of Rishikesh, situated on the banks of Ganga, got its name. It is 42 km from Dehradun and its calm, serene surroundings and a peaceful atmosphere have led many a saint and godman to set up ashrams along the holy Ganga. Today, Rishikesh has developed into a major center for yoga and meditation and research in mental and physical health.

Laxmanjhoola, a suspension bridge across the Ganga, Triveni Ghat where evening aarti to Ganga Ma is performed and the Ram Jhoola make for interesting visits and are a must. In addition, there are many important temples and ashrams to be seen.
