Sasan Gir

The last refuge of the Asiatic Lion, Sasan gir is a wildlife sanctuary reserved mainly for the protection and conservation of this endangered species and other animals and birdlife.

One of India's largest wildlife parks Sasan Gir, also known as the Gir Forest, covers an area of approximately 1400 sq km and offers a variety of fauna including the panther, the hyena, the wild boar, deer, antelope, fox, jackal, chausingha deer and the peacock.

The latest tourist attraction is the crocodile farm within the sanctuary.

The park is open from mid-October to mid-June and the only main accommodation available is a Forest Lodge in Sasan.

ACCESS

Nearest airport is at Keshod which is connected to Mumbai. The sanctuary is connected with Ahmedabad, 395 km by rail.

Regular bus services are available from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Vadodara.
