SpitiKnown as the 'Valley of Monas-teries', Spiti houses several world famous gompas including Tabo, Gulling, Whankar and Kee. The establishment of these gompas have been due to the development of Buddhism which has been practised in the valley over the last few centuries. Thankas (fabric paintings), an array of musical murals, some of the priceless possessions of the monasteries -- they all reflect the skill and the love for colour and aesthetics of the people of Spiti. PLACES OF INTEREST Sumdo: the entry point for Spiti at an altitude of 3350 m, is situated at the confluence of rivers Spiti and Pase-chu; Schichiling -- 50 km from Sumdo -- is en route to the Dankar monastery. Attergu is the entry point to two valleys. On the right lies the Pin Valley and on the left is the trek to the Lingti Valley. Kaza the site of the famous Kee monastery which is situated 11 km from Kaza. Losar is situated 60 km from Kaza. Kunzam Pass: At an altitude of 4590 m this is the gateway to Spiti from Lahaul.
