Agra

Although it has existed for over two thousand years, the continuous history of Agra is traceable only from 1500 A.D. Sikander Lodi made it his capital, followed by Babar and his successors. Watered by the river Yamuna, the city has seen the magnificence of various kings, particularly the Mughals, in the form of their culture, art and architecture. The massive grandeur of the Agra Fort, the exquisite artistry of Itmad-ud-Daula, the majesty of Fatehpur Sikri and of course the sheer magnificence of the Taj Mahal has to be seen to be believed. The massive and grand Agra Fort is a painstaking creation of four successive Mughal emperors Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb each making a beautiful addition after the other. The Itmad-ud-Daula (built in memory of Empress Nur Jehan's father) embodies a form of art which eventually culminated and reached its zenith in the magnificent Taj Mahal.
