AizawlAizawl, perched on top of a high plateau, is the capital of Mizoram, and a city humming with political, cultural and commercial activity. It is an ideal base for touring out to nearby places like Tawi, Tamdil and Dampa. An inner line permit is required by tourists to Mizoram. There are buses plying between Aizawl and Guwahati via Silchar and Shillong. PLACES OF INTEREST The Zoo and the unique fauna of Mizoram, and the Museum with its collection of historical relics, ornaments, implements and costumes. EXCURSIONS Tamdil is a beautiful picnic spot, centred around a lake which is also a fish farm; Tawi (140 km) and Dampa are interesting wildlife sanctuaries; Champahi (210 km) a hill resort at an altitude of 1,600 metres is an important agriculture and sericulture centre; Phawngpuri or the Blue Mountain which is held in great awe and reverence by the Mizos; and Saiha (360 km) and the nearby Lake Palak said to be the home of a serpent wearing a ruby crown.
