Bandipur Wildlife SanctuarySet up in 1931 in the foothills of the Nilgiris by the Mysore Mahara jas, the Bandipur Nabond Park is the home of some very rare species of animals and birds. One of the most fascinating sanctuaries of Karnataka, Bandipur has an exquisite variety of wildlife including tigers, peafowl, elephants, sambas, barking deer, quail and the hornbill. Another major attraction of the Park is the Safari on an elephant back which can make your trip an unforgettable experience. The best time to visit Bandipur (140 km from Mysore) is between June and October. ACCOMMODATION available at a few rest houses and cottages managed by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), and Karnataka Forest Department (KFD).
