Dimapur

Dimasa, the river flowing through Dimapur, lends its name to the city. Dimapur is one of the most important cities of the north-eastern region of India, and is also the gateway to Nagaland. It has the state's only railhead and airport. With its clubs and restaurants, banks and emporiums, Dimapur wears a lively and busy look. Situated on National Highway 39, it is also an important commercial centre of the region. History records Dimapur as the capital of the Kachari rulers during the medieval ages. Touristically, Dimapur has numerous attractions by way of its history, its natural beauty and its new Intangki Wildlife Sanctuary. Facilities in Dimapur include several medium range hotels and a reasonably adequate transport system.

PLACES OF INTEREST

The relics of the Kachari kingdom which held sway during the medieval times. The Ruth's and Haralu emporia are famous for their exquisite Naga shawls and other handicrafts. Here one can see women skilfully working on their traditional looms. Dimapur also has some lovely tea gardens, and the river Dhansiri is in its vicinity.

About 39 km away is the Intangki Wildlife Sanctuary.
