Garo Hills

While Shillong is part of the Khasi Hills, other two Hills are the Garo and Jaintia.Garo Hills are known for their abundance of wildlife, flora and fauna. Some of the places one can visit include Balpakram - a National Wildlife Park; Naphak Lake; Siju Caves - famous for the limestone formations; Rongrengiri; and Williamnagar.

Jaintia Hills

Jowai, the headquarters of the Jaintia Hills is situated about 64 km from Shillong, and is circled by the majestic Myntdu river. Also there is the Thadlaskein Lake, Nartiang; and Syndal a village dotted with a number of caves which were used as hide-outs during wars between the Jaintia kings and foreign invaders.
