Lothal

Situated 80 km from Ahmedabad, Lothal, which 4500 years ago, was closely related to the indus Valley cities of Harappa and Mohenjodaro, is a city of great interest to archaeologists. Meaning `mound of the dead' in the Gujarati language, Lothal in ancient times was probably one of the most important ports of the sub-continent and possibly had trade connections with Egypt, Mesopotamia and Persia.

Lothal is a day's trip from Ahmedabad. the nearest railway station is at Bhurkhi on the Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar railway line from where regular bus services are available to Lothal.
