About 75 kms from Palghat, the Nelliyampathy hills are a chain of ridges and valleys covered with dense evergreen forests. The height ranges from 467 meters to the highest peak Padagiri which is 1572 meters above sea level. |
The drive from Palghat is itself fascinating as it opens before you a view of blue-purple hills and thick tropical forests. There are some excellent places for stop overs on the way. Nelliyampathy is good for trekkers too. ACCESS Nelliyampathy is about two and-a-half hours drive from Palghat and about 4 hours from Calicut. EXCURSIONS Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary Spreading over on area of 285 sq kms, Parambikulam is said to house a very large population of bison. Apart from this you can view the Nilgiri langur, sloth bear, the lion-tailed macaque, spotted deer and a few tigers and leopards. The Cannimare Teak Tree, also believed to be the largest in the Asia, grows here. |
